• Wireless cameras that send signals or transmissions to some type of receiver, such as a TV or VCR.
• Wired and wireless cameras that send recorded images to your computers so that you can access the images anywhere.
• Wired cameras that either work with your TV and VCR or have their own monitor and recording system.

Besides what type of cameras you want, there are other aspects of the camera that need to be considered.  For instance, you should consider how wide of a space will be under surveillance, so you can decide the zoom and panning you will need, which refers to how wide the camera sweeps and how far out it will record.  Moreover, you need to consider if you need black and white, color, and night vision on the cameras in your professional surveillance system. If you do not need night vision, but would like the cameras to see in low lighting, you need to consider an aspect known as the LUX. This is what allows the camera to see in bad lighting and the lower the LUX, the better you camera will do this. 

The placement of your home surveillance system is one of the most important factors to consider, as bad placement will not allow your system to be effective. The following tips will show you where to place your surveillance cameras in order to make your professional surveillance system effective:

• If you are securing the outside of your home, it is best to put surveillance cameras that will either focus on or have in its panning range all points of entry to your home, if you are on a budget, try to get the doors and large windows in the cameras range.
• It is wise to have surveillance cameras for your back yard, as it is more likely intruders will come from here as they are not as easily seen.
• Sometimes, placing cameras on the corners of your home will allow you to sweep the entire perimeter of your homes property and keep an eye on all areas of your yard.
