Being a resorts island, it is common if Bali is very popular with water sports. Swimming is not something special. More than that, tourists can do snorkeling, surfing, banana boat rides, water ski, parasailing, sea kayakking, etc. Some places also provide catamarans, small sail boats, and boards for wind surfing along the beaches.
For people who loves surfing, the perfect place of Bali's famous surfing spots is located near Ulu Watu and along Bali's West coast North of Canggu. Not for every surfers, these places are the spots for experts in top physical condition who are comfortable surfing over coral reefs on large, powerful waves that break in shallow water.
In several Bali locations, a number of PADI certified companies offer diving tours with experienced guides and equipment available from hours, one day to several days. So far, the best sites in Bali for diving (some with ship wrecks) are along Bali's East coast near Candi Dasa, Amed and Tulamben and near Nusa Penida.
After all the above mentioned activities, don’t conclude that what Bali can do is offering paradise only for them who loves water sports. In Nusa Dua area, few clubs offer aerobics, archery, tennis and ping pong, beach volleyball, bocci ball lessons, and a circus school for adults.
If you are interested in playing golf, The "Bali Handara" near Bedugul in the mountains is probably Bali's most attractive golf course. There is also an 18-hole course in Nusa Dua and Tanah Lot, and the 9-hole course at the Grand Bali Beach Hotel in Sanur. There are also hotel sports clubs which offer several outdoor tennis courts, indoor squash courts, and complete fitness facilities.
To experience the sensation of paragliding, just go to a hill, located at the south of the airport. Here a well-trained instructor will accompany you on a 20 minute tandem flight over the most spectacular strip of Bali's coastline. To experience the world class rafting, several companies offer exciting white water rafting tours (grade 2 to grade 4 rapids) on the Ayung river North-West of Ubud and on the Unda river North of Klungkung.
